San Francisco Area Has Most Apple Ownership
Experian Simmons, providers of consumer behavior data, released results of a study to determine which markets are the biggest Apple product users, and found that the San Francisco Bay Area is the top market for the company's products.
For purposes of the survey, Silicon Valley- where Apple is headquartered- was counted as part of the Bay Area rather than as its own market.
Using consumer data about iPod, iPhone, and Mac computer ownership and its MMG3 geographical analysis tool, Experion ranked the 206 Designated Market Areas (DMAs) in the continental US.
Compared to the national average of the 21.6 percent of adults who own or use an iPod, iPhone, or Mac computer, the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose, Calif. market came in first with residents 49 percent more likely to own or use a core Apple product. Their 32.5 percentage wasn't far ahead of the other markets, however. The Boston, San Diego, New York, Washington, D.C. and Chicago markets were all found to have at least 29 percent of adult residents as Apple users.
