Famous Tate is not exactly a newcomer in the world of appliance and mattress sales. The store, originally a GE appliance dealer, was founded in 1954 as Tate Electric and sold in 1973 to its current owner, John Horst.
And yet the independent dealership is one of the last of its kind in the Tampa, Fla., area.
