FCC May Want Restrictions on XM/Sirius Deal
What’s taking so long, in the merger between XM and Sirius Satellite Radio? According to a report last week in BusinessWeek, Congress is putting pressure on the FCC to require conditions on the merger, beyond those that the companies have already agreed to.
It is unknown how amenable the FCC is to these conditions, which include requiring the companies to include Sirius Radio on units alongside terrestrial and HD Radio, or whether the companies would be willing to accept them; both the FCC and the two companies declined BusinessWeek’s requests for comment.
The piece did say, however, that the longer the merger drags on, the more pressure XM and Sirius will fall under to get it done, even if it means accepting further conditions.
