FCC Nearing Decision on XM/Sirius
In the months that the Federal Communications Commission has been considering whether to approve the merger between XM and Sirius Satellite Radio, a decision has been called “imminent” seemingly every week. But now, there may actually be a reason to believe a ruling is on the way.
According to the Wall Street Journal, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin has asked FCC staffers to “draft documents” in relation to the merger. Martin later said in a press conference that the documents are being drafted for multiple possible outcomes.
However, Martin added that he has not yet made a decision on the merger, and said that the merger is unlikely to come either before the end of the first quarter (March 31) or prior to a decision on the merger by the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division.
