For retailers and manufacturers, the solution seems fairly seamless. But on Channel Intelligence's end, the company received daily in-stock status of all products from retailers.
Within a day, the provider receives automatic inventory lists using its Commerce Data Interchange (CDI) from big boxes like Best Buy, Circuit City, OfficeMax, CompUSA and Radio Shack. But where exactly does that leave the independent or small-to-mid-size chain?
Fulmer says that for obvious reasons, securing automatic daily feeds of stock is "something that's easier for the bigger guys to do. But at the same time, we can also add-in a method for mom and pops. Manufacturers really are about being fair to their channel partners. If mom and pops are doing well selling a product, they'll include them in the list. All we need is their contact address and info so we can map it."
