FiOS Service Nearing Approval in New York
If a government body votes its way later this week, Verizon will be one step closer to offeringl its full FiOS package, including television service, in New York City by year’s end, the New York Times reported.
Franchise and Concession Review Committee is expected to approve Verizon’s application Tuesday, which would leave a decision by the state Public Service Commission as the only remaining hurdle for FiOS to arrive in the five boroughs. It is already available in the city’s suburbs, including Northern New Jersey.
However, Verizon is still more than five years away from having the infrastructure in place to offer full FiOS service to every home in Manhattan, due to difficulties in installing cable underground in the city. The company agreed earlier this spring to provide phone and Internet services in parts of downtown Manhattan.
