First IFA+ Summit 2018 Speakers Announced
Last month, IFA unveiled the schedule and topics for this year’s edition of the IFA+ Summit in Berlin. The two-day show-within-a-show promises to bring together some of the most influential minds in the tech industry to discuss disruptive ideas, futuristic trends, and brainstorm on innovative business models.
With the four different subject clusters already in place, IFA has now begun to announce the expert speakers who will be on stage leading those discussions. And, from the looks of the early lineup, robotics and real-world science fiction look to play a major part at this year’s IFA+ Summit.
Artist and cyborg activist Moon Ribas may be best-known for developing a product called the Seismic Sense, a sensor that she implanted in her feet that allows her to perceive earthquakes taking place anywhere on the planet in real time. Ribas plans to discuss her work as well as the union between humans and technology through cybernetics. Her earthquake sensors, she says, serve as proof that humans are able to massively expand their sensory possibilities with the help of technology.
Stephen D. Larson, another confirmed speaker, developed the OpenWorm project, which is an open code on the internet that programmers across the globe are actively working on. His goal is to expand the capabilities of the digital world, while also getting a better understanding of the way the human brain functions. “Modeling a simple, functioning nervous system enables us to understand complex processes in the human brain,” he said.
Other confirmed speakers include: Garry Kasparov, ex-chess world champion, on Artificial Intelligence; Uma Subramanian, CEO of Airbus company Voom, on new urban mobility with helicopters on demand; and Jens Lambrecht, founder of the Berlin-based start-up GESTALT Robotics, on the humanization of robots. IFA said that other speakers will be announced shortly.
The IFA+ Summit will take place September 2-3 on the Messe Berlin exhibition grounds during IFA, in the GRAND THEATER in Hall 26b. Tickets for the IFA+ Summit are available for 599 euros.
