Days after announcing the opening of an iStore in San Francisco International Airport, InMotion’s name is back in the news for another store opening. This time, WHSmith, which acquired InMotion in 2018, announced the opening of the first InMotion location in the U.K.—at Leeds Bradford Airport.
“We are excited to bring the successful InMotion brand to UK passengers for the first time,” Toby Keir, Managing Director of WHSmith Travel, said in a statement. “Having partnered with Leeds Bradford Airport for several years, we are proud to take this step with them. Already a staple in digital accessories retail in North America, InMotion will strengthen our presence in UK travel retail and provide a unique shopping experience for our customers.”
InMotion, which ranks 55th in Dealerscope’s 2019 Top 101 CE Retailers list, is the largest airport-based retailer of digital accessories in North America. One of the major benefits of the company’s acquisition by WHSmith that was touted was the global positioning of the brand. The opening of the first U.K. store at the Leeds airport is just one example of that. At Leeds Bradform Airport, InMotion will bring its range of headphones, power, and technology accessories to a customer base that includes some 4 million international passengers who pass through the airport each year.
“We are proud to partner with Leeds Bradford Airport in bringing InMotion's first entry to the UK market with many more to come,” InMotion President and CEO Jeremy Smith said in the statement. “By combining best practices from both InMotion and WHSmith, the shopping experience for the Leeds traveller will be first class from a store design, product selection, and customer service perspective.”
