Fivefold Worldwide Increase Seen for 3D TV
Sales of 3D TVs worldwide will grow fivefold this year over 2010, accounting for 11 percent of flat-screen sales, research firm iSuppli forecasted Thursday.
Shipments are expected to reach 23.4 million units this year.
The company attributed the expected gain to lower prices, increased marketing and promotion of the technology and the shift of emphasis of 3D from a must-have feature to an add-on. The growth is expected to increase even more in the coming years, more than doubling in 2012 before hitting the 100 million mark in 2014.
