Holiday Sales Seen Flat Overall, in CE Sector
Research firm NPD Group forecasted this week that holiday spending this year, compared with last year, will be flat, both in the overall economy and the consumer electronics sector.
NPD found that 9 percent of consumers plan to spend more than last year, 64 percent plan to spend the same and 27 percent plan to spend less. All are within three percentage points of last year's numbers.
Meanwhile, 15 percent of consumers plan to buy electronics as a gift, compared with 16 percent last year; CE ranked 6th on a list of categories, behind clothing, toys, books, movies/DVDs and accessories.
