Pacific Media Associates reports that flat panel television and business display unit sales increased 109 percent from October to November 2006. With the street price falling 8 percent in that time, October’s revenue increase totaled 93 percent.
Pacific Media Associates Vice President Rosemary Abowd elaborates, “The average street price for 42-inch plasma HDTVs dropped 25 percent in just one month. Panasonic led with very aggressive pricing, which most manufacturers met. Fierce competition among retailers during start of the holiday buying season also pushed prices down, which attracted new buyers.”
Panasonic units sold best and saw the highest revenue, with Sony revenue close behind. The 42-inch Panasonic TH-42PX60U had the highest unit share of any consumer model at 11.4 percent, after dropping 24 percent in cost to $1,327.
