Vizio Credits Mass Retailers for its Stellar '08
The company is seeking to make its mark in other product categories as well, including cable, wall mounts, and – with the introduction of a $199.99 player in April – in Blu-ray. Also, in late May, Vizio enters the surge protection arena, with a piano-gloss black product that will accommodate TV, DVR and Blu-ray plug-ins.
But Vizio’s most aggressive product introduction plans after TV, right now, are in the audio category. Late this month, a flat-panel-TV sound bar featuring SRS Labs’ TruSurround sound-shaping technology and SRS TruVolume, which evens out volume fluctuations from broadcast sources, is shipping with a bundled wireless subwoofer at $399. A standalone sound bar debuts in May at $299 and a 4.1-channel solution that adds two rear wireless speakers to the sound bar/wireless sub combo is due out in late fall, said Newsome.
