Flat-Screen Sales Flat in May, Report Says
North American sales of flat-panel TVs barely budged in May, with sales increasing just 1 percent over the month previous, although revenues increased 4 percent. That’s according to a Consumer Flat Panel Display Sell-Through Tracking Service report released by Pacific Media Associates.
The report also found that growth in sales of the more expensive 1080p model TVs helped boost revenue for the sector overall. Growth in sales of the 1080p LCD models in the 45-to-49” segment pushed them to third among flat-panel categories, with 30-to-34”-inch WXGA LCD coming in first and 50-to-54” WXGA plasma second.
Also, according to Pacific Media Associates, Sony came in first place in both unit and revenue market share, with Pioneer coming in second on the revenue side and Samsung the runner-up on the unit side.
