FotoNation announced Thursday what they characterize as the world’s first red-eye correction technology directly embedded into a mobile phone. The aptly named Red-Eye Correction Technology is a software solution that allows camera phone users to take red-eye-free photos on the spot without having to retouch them later on a computer.
The technology; already licensed to such companies as Kodak, Nikon, Pentax, Sanyo and Samsung for use in their digital cameras; has received a European IST award. FotoNation is targeting an emerging market of mobile phones whose cameras now come with flash capability. Said FotoNation CEO Eran Steinberg, “We have optimized the implementation of our red-eye technology over many different DSC platforms. Our most recent port to mobile camera platforms is the logical next step.”
The technology, to be demonstrated at the 2007 PMA, will be available on the Nokia N73, N80 and N93 series of camera phones.
