What They’re Thinking: Ken Smith
Last year I embarked on the CE Express, a 22-day, 2,212.4-mile bike ride from Maine to CEDIA Expo in Denver to raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, which opened at Maine General in July. I can’t take time away from business to repeat the feat, but the experience remains fast in my mind.
How can Maine to Denver be equated to the industry? For starters, in running a business, one must have a goal, focus, determination, planning, and tenacity. Just exactly like the bike ride. Also, when in business, one must absolutely depend upon their team. Just exactly as I did in my bike ride.
Another thing I would like to say about that is that cancer affects us all, and that means everybody within our industry. My goal was to use the fact that I am well known by many folks in the industry, to try to increase awareness of the effects of this horrific disease, and try to bring people in our industry together to help fight it. We have an amazing industry, and think of how much more amazing it would be if we didn’t have to deal with cancer in any way.
