Other States Pursue California-Like Restrictions
Following the approval late last year of California's tough energy regulations on TV usage- which were strongly opposed by many in the industry- several other states are pursuing similar restrictions at the legislative level, the Consumer Electronics Association said.
According to the CEA's daily SmartBrief newsletter Tuesday, bills have been introduced in four states- Massachusetts, New York, Washington and Wisconsin- that would mandate limiting of energy usage for electronics. The Washington and Massachusetts bills would limit the size of televisions and limit amounts of energy use, while the New York bill deals more specifically with televisions.
All of the bills, which include separate House and Senate bills in Massachusetts, Washington and Wisconsin and an Assembly bill in New York- have only been introduced and none have passed as of yet.
