Frederik Meijer Dies
Frederik G. H. Meijer, who took over the chain that bears his name in the 1960s and presided over its expansion, died in late November. He was 91 and passed away after suffering a stroke.
According to a New York Times obituary, Meijer joined the company that his father founded as a grocery bagger at the age of 14. He took over the company 30 years later and built it into America's 15th-largest public company, with more than 200 locations, and is still controlled by the family that bears his name.
Video of Meijer's memorial service has been posed to the company's website.
