In networking, Proxim is promoting its recently released line of Symphony-HRF wireless networking products. The line includes a USB adapter ($119 SRP), a PC card ($129 SRP) and a network gateway ($199 SRP). These products work on the Home RF standard that is being supported by Proxim and other companies, such as Intel, IBM, Compaq and Cayman Systems.
Lucent, whose Orinoco line of PC cards and Gateways also offers wireless Internet networking, recently introduced a USB receiver that connects to any standard USB port of a PC or Macintosh computer and enables a wireless Internet connection, broadband or dial up, from a home gateway device.
Philips is continuing its push into the PC peripheral and imaging market. It introduced updated versions of the Vesta PC cam line, including the Vesta Toucam, a more portable design that can clip to the back of a laptop computer. The company has also increased its new sound card line with four-channel and 5.1-channel sound cards that can be used with complementary multi-channel multimedia speaker systems, which Philips also makes.
