Garmin Sued by Nuvio Over Nuvifone
Garmin’s plans to create a GPS-based iPhone-like device had a snag this week when the company was sued for trademark infringement in connection with the phone. The company suing, Nuvio, alleges that the product’s name, the Nuvifone, infringes on its name.
“While we would have preferred to settle this without resorting to a lawsuit, we felt it was important to ensure that our customers and potential customers are not confused by someone abusing our legally protected trademark,” Nuvio’s CEO, Jason P. Talley, said in a statement. Nuvio is a provider of on-demand business phone service.
The suit was filed in the the U.S. District Court of Kansas; both Nuvio and Garmin are based in the Kansas City area.
