Garmin/TomTom Suit is Blocked by Judge
A patent battle between the two biggest names in the GPS navigation field was stopped in its tracks late last week, when a District Court judge in Wisconsin ruled that Garmin cannot proceed with litigation against rival TomTom, the Kansas City Business Journal reported.
Judge Barbara Crabb upheld a previous ruling which found that TomTom had not in fact infringed on any of Garmin’s existing ease-of-use patents. TomTom has also countersued, accusing Garmin of the same thing.
The court battle between the two companies is not over, however; Garmin may appeal the ruling, and a separate suit filed in Texas is not affected by the Wisconsin ruling.
