GE Appliances Expands Manufacturing Footprint in Denver
GE Appliances is expanding its warehouse space with the grand opening of the Denver Area Distribution Center. This push coincides with Denver’s booming population growth.
“GE Appliances’ new Area Distribution Center in Denver joins the leading distribution network in the appliance industry with the ability to deliver products in three days or fewer to 90 percent of U.S. homes,” says Mark Shirkness, vice president of distribution for GE Appliances. “Our Denver location is the blueprint for our future warehouses and distribution capability. It’s a smart facility—a complete redesign of everything we’re doing in our distribution network to better serve our customers.”
The team behind this expansion has invested a whopping $150 million for the new smart facility, and they’re hoping to bring in some 220 jobs along with it. These new employees will undergo training using virtual reality headsets which will cut down training time by about 60 percent.
The distribution center will also feature real-time tracking capabilities via radio frequency identification (RFID) for vehicles carrying shipments across the country. The ability to track a shipment with this level of detail provides both customers and owners with peace of mind.
