GERS Summit Offers Retail Solutions
Lavine added that he is partial to hands-on labs for a number of reasons important to his own dealership. "You get to touch and feel the products," he said, explaining that he gets a lot of value in the networking opportunities of the event: "talking to people with similar issues."
One particularly well-attended panel presentation focused on integrating electronic credit kiosks into retail. A representative from Levin Furniture said he replaced his credit office completely with a kiosk solution. The solution lets sales associates bypass the written credit application phase, which is then called into the loan company. Instead, customers enter their information at self-service kiosks and receive an immediate credit approval (or denial).
The Levin spokesman admitted that he liked the system because it gets sales associates back on the sales floor rather than keep them tied up with credit applications. He said it also increased customer comfort level with credit questions because they're not dealing with an actual person, just an on-screen interface. He said the sales force loves it because they know up front what the customers' credit limit is, and as a result, the average ticket price has gone up since initiating the program.
