Digital Imaging Builds a New Front
Convergence was the big buzz word this year at CES as manufacturers of digital imaging products showcased a variety of solutions that allow consumers greater access to and more creative freedom with their digital content. There were many imaging standouts at CES and the first one that caught our eye may change the industry’s sharing paradigm. With the variety of handheld devices currently on the market that allows consumers to view and share their images on the go, the desire to see those images in a larger format has always been hanging over this market. A new technology that both 3M and Texas Instruments showed might just take care of this issue.
3M has developed an ultra-compact, LED-illuminated projection engine designed for integration into virtually any personal electronic device. Roughly the size of a wireless earpiece and less than half an inch thick, the 3M mobile projection engine delivers solid VGA resolution images. The company said it is working with several vendors on possible integration as early as the second quarter.
