Global TV Shipments Rebound
Global shipments of TVs rose 1 percent in the first quarter to 54.9 million units, for the first year-over-year increase since the third quarter of last year, according to research firm DisplaySearch and its Quarterly Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report.
LCD shipments, meanwhile, surged 38 percent to an all-time high of 37.5 million units. LCD now takes up 68.4 percent of global market share, with CRT TVs 25 percent and plasma display panels 6.5 percent. OLED shipments remain close to zero in terms of global percentage.
Among brands, Samsung leads worldwide in market share with 21.9 percent, followed by LG (12.9 percent), Sony (9.9 percent), Panasonic (9.1 percent) and Sharp (5.9 percent.)
