Google Android to Premier on T-Mobile
The New York Times reported Friday that T-Mobile will beat other carriers to the punch in offering a mobile phone using Google’s Android platform. Android was developed by Google and the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of mobile carriers, handset manufacturers, software developers and others, using an open source license.
Alliance member HTC will manufacture the phone, which is expected to hit stores in Q4. Anticipated features include a touch-screen with a slide-out keyboard and the ability to use applications to personalize the phone.
The FCC has yet to certify that either the phone or the software meet network standards. The final release date will hinge upon that approval.
