Google Buys Motorola Mobility
Google, nearly four years after launching the Android platform, made its first major mobile hardware acquisition Monday, announcing the acquisition of Motorola Mobility.
The deal is for $12.5 billion, or $40 per share.
"This acquisition will not change our commitment to run Android as an open platform. Motorola will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open," Google CEO and cofounder Larry Page wrote in a blog post announcing the deal.
