Google Denies Android Delay
Despite reports earlier this week, in the Wall Street Journal and elsewhere, that the project was behind schedule, Google now says that the first phones featuring its Android mobile operating system will indeed appear in the second half of this year, as scheduled.
“We remain on schedule to deliver the first Android-based handset in the second half of 2008,” the company said in a statement to several media outlets. “We’re very excited to see the momentum continuing to build behind the Android platform among carriers, handset manufacturers, developers and consumers.”
According to Ars Technica, a number of members of Google’s Open Handset Alliance, including Sprint and China Mobile, had run into various problems with their development of the hardware.
