Google Eyes Fiber Expansion
Google is planning to expand its Google Fiber fiber optic cable service to more cities, the company announced on its official Google Fiber blog Wednesday.
Currently available in Kansas City, Austin, and Provo, Utah, Google has "invited" cities in nine metro areas to begin offering the service. The areas are Raleigh-Durham, Charlotte, Atlanta, Nashville, San Antonio, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, San Jose and Portland.
"We aim to provide updates by the end of the year about which cities will be getting Google Fiber. Between now and then, we’ll work closely with each city’s leaders on a joint planning process that will not only map out a Google Fiber network in detail, but also assess what unique local challenges we might face," Milo Medin, vice president of Google Access Service, wrote on the blog post.
