Google Drops Direct Nexus One Sales
Google has pulled the plug on its ambitious plan to sell the Nexus One smartphone directly to consumers online, the company said in a blog post Friday.
The Nexus One, which has been a disappointment sales-wise, will be sold through carries and other retail channels, while the Google online store will become a "showcase" for various Android phones.
"While the global adoption of the Android platform has exceeded our expectations, the web store has not," Google vice president of engineering Andy Rubin wrote on Google's official blog. "It’s clear that many customers like a hands-on experience before buying a phone, and they also want a wide range of service plans to chose from."
