Google Leads Brands List; Apple, BlackBerry Gain
Technology companies, especially those based in the U.S., once again dominated the annual BrandZ Top 100 Most Powerful Brands list, issued by the market research firm Millward Brown.
Google topped the list for the third year in a row, followed by General Electric and Microsoft in the second and third spots. IBM, Apple and Nokia also made the top ten, with foreign telecom giants China Mobile and Vodafone finishing 5th and 13th, respectively, while HP was 16th.
The criteria of the rankings was brand value, with Google’s value placed at $86 billion, with only GE and Microsoft crossing the $70 billion barrier. Meanwhile, Apple and Research in Motion’s BlackBerry were the two fastest-growing brands, with BlackBerry jumping 390 percent in value over last year, and Apple rising 123 percent. No other brands broke the 100 percent barrier.
