Google Pixel Pop-Up or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Brick-and-Mortar
Google's October 4th event sent a lot of different signals to the industry. One of them was that they are ready to play ball with premium brands like Samsung and Apple - even if it felt a little misguided. Their second message was that no one is going to stand in their way because Google will be producing competition for every brand and emerging corner of the consumer electronic industry.
They will start by competing in the brick-and-mortar space or rather start testing the waters with a pop-up showcase in the SoHo District of New York on October 20.
Temporarily opening a store starts a vague narrative that contradicts directly against those saying that online shopping is king. Many, like retail futurist Dough Stephens, are beginning to hint that brick-and-mortar is actually a long way from extinction. In fact, Stephens says that physical stores are at an evolutionary point that would make it the most valuable part of any consumer's path to purchase... maybe ever.
