The DVD Chain
Mainland China is the center of production
There are more than 100 active players in Greater China, ranging from small- to large-scale manufacturers. Most of them are traditional home DVD player makers and some are new entrants from other product lines such as in-car entertainment products, LCD TVs, home theater systems and MP3 players. Most of these companies are essentially assemblers that import key components, including LCD panels, chipsets and DVD mechanisms.
The province of Guangdong in mainland China is home to most DVD player makers, even to Hong Kong and Taiwan companies. The manufacturing facilities of these companies are based mainly in the Pearl River Delta, particularly in the cities of Shenzhen, Dongguan and Huizhou.
