Green TV Label Launched
A group representing the LCD television industry this week launched an effort aimed at encouraging manufacturers to use more energy-efficient materials in the production of the TVs.
The LCD TV Association’s first step is to encourage them to use ambient light sensors and if they do, they gain the right to affix the “Green TV” logo to the product.
“We believe LCD TVs already consume the least energy to build, use and dispose of, but we want to make them even better in the future and have a lighter ‘carbon footprint’ on the Earth by having the most recyclable parts and highest possible energy efficiencies,” the group’s chairman and founder, Bruce Berkoff, said as part of the announcement. “This will involve the use of less heavy metals, ambient light sensors and smarter electronics very soon, as well as more LED backlights with spatial and content-based dimming and energy savings over time, and many other improvements.”
