Haier Holds Inaugural Product Showcase
Haier America took advantage of its centrally located, architecturally significant Manhattan headquarters on Broadway – along with the city’s heightened Thanksgiving Week tourist presence – to display the latest products and future prototypes from eight of its business units at the first-ever Haier Product Showcase.
The exhibition, which ran Tuesday and Wednesday in the classical-design building that is the former home of the Greenwich Bank, was held because “we wanted, after eight years here, to tell the Haier story by exposing the general populace to everything we do,” said Richard S. Block, the company’s vice president of marketing. “Dealers, architects and the public have been invited, and we’re also getting a jump this way on the 2008 trade shows,” he added. The event was publicized through The New York Times, New York Magazine and the daily paper AM New York, in tandem with e-mail blasts to Haier customers and the trade.
Highlights included the introduction of the PC-free ibiza Rhapsody Wi-Fi portable media player, developed to be compatible with the Rhapsody digital music service and with AOL Video. The product is available for $329 on amazon.com in a 30GB version and 4GB and 8GB flash models will soon follow at $229 and $249, respectively.
