Hail Mary? HD DVD Plans Super Bowl Ad Push
Not content to go quietly as rival Blu-ray scoops up more and more market share, rival HD DVD is planning a big splash: the format’s backers are planning to run a thirty-second spot during Sunday’s Super Bowl. Home Media Magazine reported that the HD DVD promotions group paid $2.7 million for the spot.
The ads will be for HD DVD’s hardware players, including the HD-A3, HD-A30 and HD-A35, but the specific content for the commercial has not yet been revealed.
The magazine also said that while the Blu-ray Disc Association considered running a Super Bowl ad, they ultimately decided against it.
