Hall of Fame - Sam Runco
And then he spent a lot of time in Northern California bars—not as a barfly. Rather, he enabled the nascent sports bar concept itself by installing copious amounts of his front projectors.
While Runco had huge success with the sports bar business, he always thought his projectors would be a bigger hit in the home. But it wasn't until the '80s that the culture and the technology caught up with Runco's vision.
Eventually, Runco became part industry-leader, part folk-hero to many dealers. "My presence with the dealers came about because I was one of them," he said. "When I sit with dealers and installers, it's probably different than most of the other suppliers they deal with. [Normally] you can't get to the president of the company, you can't get to the vice president, you probably can't get to the VP of sales or marketing. Those guys are just kind of too big. But I'm accessible to my dealers and to their installers. I actually feel I have some obligation to these guys to entertain and keep them in a good mood."
