Hall of Fame, Tony Weiss
Prior to his joining CompUSA (then called Soft Warehouse) in 1988, Weiss had worked for both a mass merchant sports apparel and equipment retailer and a B2B computer reseller. His first position with Soft Warehouse was on the sales floor working with customers. Three months later, he was manager of a store in Atlanta, and has continued to work his way up the organization since, calling himself "the poster child for promoting from within."
A self-described "tech guy," Weiss feels he has an insider's view of the consumer experience with personal technology because he lives it every day. With a house full of flat-screen TVs, TiVos, Wi-Fi networks and digital cameras, Weiss feels the pain of the early adopter, and uses that experience in his vision for CompUSA. He refers to himself as level two tech support.
When Weiss started with the company 16 years ago, CompUSA was a significantly smaller operation than it is now. These days, CompUSA ranks number seven on Dealerscope's Top 50 CE Retailers Survey. He takes pride in being one of a few people who pioneered a new way to shop for technology products by helping to create the computer superstore.
