The margins on high-definition televisions may be tumbling faster than an asteroid toward the earth but there is good news: The number of homes with HDTVs will triple by 2011.
An estimated 48 million households had an HDTV by the end of 2006. That will jump to 151 million worldwide in less than five years, according to Informa Telecoms and Media.
The report, entitled “HDTV: A Global Analysis,” said some 58 percent of high definition homes are in the United States, 20 percent in Japan, while Britain, Canada, China and Germany also have large amounts of homes with HDTV.
