HELM Audio Drops New High-Powered Headphones and Cables
If you’re a fan of all things audio, from headphones, to wireless earbuds, to cables, and on-the-go accessories, then HELM Audio has all of those bases covered. In a release this week ahead of CANJAM SoCal, the company announced a number of new audio products, including headphones, in-line amps, and a next-gen MQA adapter.
The release is headlined by three new headphone products: HELM Studio Planar Headphones ($349.99), the new HELM TW5 True Wireless headphones ($129.99), and HELM’s new Triple Driver HD SportsBand headphones ($129.99).
“Our latest releases bring us closer to delivering on our goals of bringing superior sound, innovation and value to our customers,” HELM Audio CEO Eric Johnson said in the statement. “In a sea of over-priced and overseas sourced off-the-shelf headphones, HELM’s goal is to take the time to design, engineer, tune and position our products so that everyone can enjoy superior studio-quality sound without breaking the bank.”
As the brand’s flagship over ear headphones, the Studio Planars use custom designed drivers that are rectangular (as opposed to the more-common round shape) with silver coiling. HELM explained that the rectangular shape allows for a larger driver (66mm, while most are 50mm) and more evenly dispersed flexing of the driver itself, which should minimize distortion and delayed resonance while increasing accuracy and phase coherence.
The newest entrant in HELM Audio’s lineup is the True Wireless 5 in-ear headphones, which incorporate the updated Bluetooth 5 technology alongside the Qualcomm aptX codec. It’s the design of the headphones that stand out the most, though. The diamond pattern of the outer shell, while stunning to look at, is also built to be durable and scratch resistant. The earbuds provide six to eight hours of listening time, which can be extended to 30 hours when charged in the portable carrying case.
Perhaps the most technically exciting product introduced by HELM is the company’s new Boost Cable. Featuring an in-line integrated amplifier and a proprietary bass boost technology, the cable can drive those audio experience from the underpowered mobile phone that holds your audio library and some of the most power-hungry wired headphones. The cable, which is bookended by two 3.5mm jacks, can deliver +12dB of zero distortion volume gain, improved stereo imaging, improved audio clarity, and a user-controlled +6dB bass boost. The cable is powered by THX AAA technology and has been conditionally approved as a THX Certified product.
"Pending final testing, HELM Audio's new Boost Cable will represent the world’s first THX Certified in-line amplifier that brings our premium THX AAA experience to consumers,” Peter Vasay, Senior Vice President and GM, Home, THX Ltd., said in the statement "HELM Audio shares our passion for innovation that will continue to deliver premium quality audio experiences on the go at an amazing value."
Lastly, HELM dropped their new Triple Driver HD SportsBand wireless headphones. The headphones provide up to 25 hours of music listening on a charge and are powered by the aptX HD Bluetooth codec.
All of the new HELM Audio products will be on display at CANJAM SoCal June 22-23 at the Irvine Marriott.
