Hisense Ups the Ante with its 2019 ULED Android TVs
Hisense USA on May 8 launched its newest 2019 ULED Android TV 4K Ultra HD TVs, which the company’s Jim Ninesling, head of marketing and product marketing, said are ready to answer the needs of those TV viewers just embarking on a “4K purchase journey” with evolved ULED features and benefits that Hisense says boost overall picture quality, brightness, color, contrast, and motion display.
He cited research at an announcement event in New York City May 8 that “55 percent of those in the market for 4K decide in less than two weeks from the day” they start researching – and he also told us that the installed rate for 4K TV across the country now sits at around 40 percent – leaving lots of opportunity to make an impression with new-to-the-4K-market buyers.
Hisense, for its part, says it is ready for consumers just setting out on that 4K journey, deploying its H8F series nationwide now at Best Buy, bestbuy.com and amazon.com. That series is available in 50-, 55- and 65-inch sizes (at $399, $499 and $699, respectively).
Its premium H9F series will follow that grouping into the market in late May/early June, Ninesling told us. That series is to be available in 55- and 65-inch sizes ($699 and $999, respectively).
And in the latter part of Q3, he said the company’s 75-inch premium ULED set, U9F, will debut at $3,499, offering 2,000 nits peak brightness, 1,056 zones of local dimming and bringing to the market its most powerful chip set yet: the Hi-View Pro 3.
All Hisense 4K TVs offer the Android TV OS as well as built-in Google Assistant, and all provide Works with Amazon Alexa capability. The premium H9F series and the U9F also feature Quantum Dot technology.
The H8F series marks the first integration of Hisense’s ULED technology into the H8 series, says the company. Features include: a greater than 90 percent DCI-P3 wide-color gamut rating; full-array local dimming up to 60 zones; Dolby Vision and HDR10; dbx-tv audio technology; and Motion Rate 240 smooth image processing.
The step-up H9F series adds the following features: 100 percent DCI-P3 wide-color gamut; full-array local dimming up to 132 zones; a 120Hz native panel for smooth motion, along with Motion Rate 480 image processing; and wide viewing angle capability – along with being Google Home-enabled.
Hisense’s current promotional efforts include a sponsoring partnership with the UEFA EURO 2020 soccer competition. The company is also marking its 50th global anniversary this year, said Ninesling, adding it will use this milestone for promotional activity with retailers relating to pricing or value-adds that would occur closer to Q4.
Regarding 8K TVs and Hisense’s plans in that vein, Ninesling told us: “We have an 8K set we could bring to market, if we wanted to,” but he cited issues of lack of content, the still-under-50-percent 4K adoption rate – leaving plenty of room for market expansion within that technology bracket, and the fact that the broadcast infrastructure isn’t yet prepared: “We’d need nothing less than fiber everywhere to stream the bandwidth of an 8K picture.”
