Hitachi Adds HDD Camcorder and Expands DVR Drive
Hitachi announced Monday its plan to launch a new line of camcorders including one that includes both a DVD drive and a 30GB hard disc drive. The D2H5500A will be available in April and will allow 11-to-20 hours of recording on the hard drive which can then be recorded onto DVDs. A less expensive model with a smaller hard drive is available now.
Also announced was Hitachi’s new one terabyte hard drive. First targeted at desktop users for $399, the Deskstar 7K1000 will be able to store 125 hours of HDTV or 250,000 songs. A version targeted at DVR set-top-boxes will follow.
In HDTV, Hitachi plans to offer a 1280 x 1080 resolution 50-inch plasma marketed as “HD 1080-inch” for under $2,500. A step-up line will offer “Full HD” resolution of 1920 x 1080. The lower tier product is specifically aimed at other brand’s equivalently-priced 1280 x 768 resolution products.
