Holiday Gear-up for Amazon.com Includes Interest-free Financing
The consumer electronics store at Amazon.com is joining legions of brick-and-mortar dealers by adding one item for the holidays to its nearly infinite “stock” that it has never had before: interest-free financing.
Amazon’s new vice president for consumer electronics and wireless, Paul Ryder, says the decision to apply the policy -- which offers no money down, no payments and no interest for one year -- to select CE items like big-screen TVs and audio is just another amenity the site has added to make holiday shopping a seamlessly simple experience. “This program,” he says, “goes along with our Click-to-Call live customer information service -- which we’ve expanded from a successful launch for video to audio -- and our Premium Delivery Service for larger-than-27-inch TVs, where the customer not only gets delivery but also unpacking and removal of packing materials. All three wrap up the home entertainment experience for consumers.”
Ryder says there appears to be no ceiling to the trust that online customers for high-ticket items like large-screen TVs are willing to place with Amazon.com: “As we’ve increased TV lines, is there a wall where consumers decides they can’t risk buying on line? We haven’t seen it.”
