Flat-panel fill rates in the early part of 2006 “were tough,” says Workman. “But right now there seems to be an abundance of inventory as everybody’s new plants have gotten up to speed. Plenty of inventory in the channel then also becomes correspondingly plenty of deals.”
In July, when dealers were formulating their rolling forecast for the fourth quarter, business was really soft, HTSA Executive Director Richard Glikes notes. As a result, he anticipates that dealers were conservative in their buying for the holiday season.
But flat panel vendors have added capacity this year. “So there are alternatives,” Glikes says. “But there will definitely be three or four key items across two or three vendors that will be unobtainable and difficult to get. It happens every year.”
