What makes a home smart?
"Home networking is defined by computers right now," explains Dave Geiger, director of technology development for Progressive Audio in Columbus, Ohio. "It's much more of a commodity and customers can do it themselves," especially when it comes to internet networking. The concept of the "smart home," however, remains loyal, says Geiger, to more complex audio and video set ups, which he also notes, requires installation to create the ultimate high-tech residential living space. But this could change.
"Customers know quite a bit about the computer side of it because they're using [computers] so much in their jobs," he says. "It's hard to find a job right now that doesn't deal with networked PCs."
