Runco Honors Best of the Best
At its annual Dealer Getaway event in Los Cabos Mexico, home theater display maker Runco International awarded its top dealers, manufacturer representatives and distributors for outstanding achievement in 2006. About 250 people, including spouses and special industry guests (THX, ISF, CEDIA, AVS Forum), attended this year, the 12th time Runco has hosted this five-day event in Mexico. Dallas dealer HomeTronics cleaned up this year with three awards including Chairman’s Club, Dealer of the Year Single Location, and Outstanding Sales Achievement.
During the event attendees participated in round-table discussions on industry trends including Windows media centers (few people using them), HDMI issues (everyone has them), working with charities (good all-around) and THX video certification (currently unique to Runco and Vidikron). Technical demonstrations of Runco products were also provided.
Robert Hewitt of THX lead a discussion of the new certification process it created with Runco for video products and explained how it helps to differentiate high-end products from the rest of the market and therefore gives Runco dealers a distinct advantage. Dealers expressed concern that importance of the TXH label may decline if it starts appearing on a greater variety (i.e. cheaper) of products. Hewitt defended the certification, as did Runco’s Jim Burns, saying that the performance requirements are extremely high so that only the very best products have a chance of bearing the logo. Burns said the certification raises the bar for the entire industry.
