The 10th edition of the Hong Kong Electronics Fair attracted more than 3,200 exhibitors and 90,000 buyers from around the globe who were looking to looking to capitalize on the latest trends in consumer electronics.
Convenience and mobility emerged as the theme to the show, where many booths featured portable speakers, smart watches and battery chargers. A new zone on the show floor was dedicated to bags and cases. Many of the devices and accessories displayed featured Bluetooth 4.0, a low energy protocol that can maintain a connection between devices without draining the battery.
Taking advantage of the new low power technology are smart tags that alert users if they have lost track of luggage or pets, and smart watches that use a constant connection to the smartphone. ABI Research forecasts that 1.2 million smartwatches will be shipped worldwide this year. NEWCO, Skypioneer, and Chou Chin Electronic touted smart watches. iUi Design, and SGI Venture showed off smart tags.
