Hong Kong Electronics Show Spotlight: The KARA Smart Mirror
KARA Smart Fitness, a Hong Kong tech start-up, is showing its KARA smart mirror and app at the Autumn Hong Kong Electronics Show. The full-size 24-inch portrait-display smart mirror system, outfitted with a built-in speaker and also Bluetooth connectivity for use with headphones, is an interactive home gym designed to provide time-strapped people access to celebrity trainers for pilates, yoga, HIIT and more at the tap of a finger powered by computer vision. The company on its web site touts the product as the equivalent of a “boutique fitness studio at your home.”
Its smartphone/tablet KARA app provides access to a range of coached workout classes that suit a variety of fitness levels – including classes in pilates, yoga and boxing, to name just a few, and the mirror is equipped with AI-powered motion-tracking technology that monitors the user’s performance using a built-in camera, which sends the data amassed to the app, which then stores the information. The app also notifies users when new classes are uploaded.
Every mirror comes with a free Care Kit, including cleaner, cloth and a camera lens cap for privacy. It is priced for the equivalent of around $1,900 (in U.S. dollars).
