Houston's High Octane Retailer
That Friday, they put them in the entertainment centers posted with signs saying, 'Buy the entertainment center, get the TV free.' "Monday rolled around and we still had a whole bunch of entertainment centers. But we'd sold the 10 TVs! And Mack said, 'Go buy some more.'," Dunnigan recalls
Electronics sales now account for around eight percent of Gallery Furniture's total revenues, says Dunnigan—not nearly the lion's share, but also certainly not small change. The store's video brands include RCA Scenium, Toshiba, Toshiba Cinema Series, JVC, Pioneer and Pioneer Elite. "We also sell speaker systems and receivers and we do custom installations," he adds. "We sell NHT speakers, Athena speaker packages, Harman Kardon receivers, and JVC receivers. We also carry Bose speaker systems and Bose home theaters and are actually in the process of building a Bose room. We're showing the Lifestyle systems and then the custom in-wall Bose systems because so many houses are pre-wired these days."
Of the growth of the custom installation side of Gallery's business, McIngvale comments, "We sell a lot of home theater furniture and that shouts of 'custom installation.' That's something we will expand upon, if the market grows on it. We've done well in it so far but the market needs to continue to expand. We're kinda getting our feet wet in that. We're doing more TV and radio advertising for it—our whole business is built on advertising and word of mouth. The strength of our Gallery brand, though, is not its promotion, but its performance, and we try to perform for our customers. If we perform better than our competitors, then we win."
