How Does One Focus on Distraction?
There are two conversations going on in America today—Green and Distraction. The forum is available. Please step to the mic with an equally loud voice on the latter, please.
All that being said, CEA’s Michael Pettricone did speak to the NHTSA Highway Safety conference a few weeks ago, so proudly our collective voice was heard. His remarks were formulated by a collective opinion voiced by over 50 participants in a couple of conference calls conducted by CEA. Foremost among the positions Pettricone presented was the industry’s commitment to safety while driving and the support of state legislation to impose limits on use of in-vehicle electronics to ensure driver safety.
I spent some time on the phone with Jennifer Bemisderfer, senior manager of communications for CEA, and she was most helpful in presenting both the position of CEA and presence of their “digital driver” Web site, which I invite everyone to visit. You may remember during my podcast interview with Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA, his mention of Internet access, GPS and voice recognition as general driver-distraction considerations.
