Technology in the Age of Recession
Tim Christensen, director, media & technology, Vann’s, Missoula, Mont.: Mobile technologies and connected devices are stimulating consumer purchase these days. Things like Vudu, or things that connect to the Internet and deliver content, such as computers, Apple TV and smartphones. It’s that convergence factor that’s driving interconnectivity of all these devices. We have seen the chasm between devices and their interoperability begin to fade. The ability for connected devices to deliver content to my TV or phone has become ubiquitous. In the old sense, convergence meant that the computer was going to be built into the TV, but it’s come at us from a different angle. The ubiquity of handheld devices is driving the connectivity demand, which will in turn drive the desire for content around the home.
The question is, how do you take this exciting framework of products and extend it in an exciting way? We’ll find ourselves selling devices around this paradigm of content delivery, no matter how it streams in.
